About Jared

My name is Jared. Six months ago I took my wife and son and my retrenchment package and decided to renovate an old farmhouse that my wife had inherited in the South of France. The farmhouse is made of stone and hadn’t had anyone living in it for over twenty years. No water, no electricity and virtually no roof.
Why would we be so crazy – well, with few options of getting work and our son a few years away from school, this was the only time we could do it.
Over the course of the last six months, we have built sheds and put a roof up. We’ve dug a well for water and we’ve introduced solar energy into our meagre home.
Now the real work has begun. Luci wanted a kitchen, so I built one, then she wanted beds, so we got the plans for those too and I got busy – now she wants storage boxes and shelves and cupboards and I’ll be building all of those too.
Without the set of plans that I got when we first arrived, none of this would have been so easy or so cheap. The plan set cost just short of $50 and we use only reclaimed wood which doesn’t cost too much.
The only disappointment in this whole thing is that Luci has too many plans to look at and her shopping list is getting bigger by the day.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email me, I’d love to help.
